Introduction :
Call of Duty is a 2003 first-person shooter video game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. The game takes place during World War II. It is based on the Quake III Team Arena engine. It also had an expansion pack called Call of Duty : United Offensive, produced by Activision and developed by Gray Matter Interactive having contributions from Pi Studios as well. It has single player as well as campaign missions. The game lets you play as three different soldiers from USA, UK And USSR. We are going to talk about the various campaigns separately. Most of the times you are working with a unit which is relevant to the World War II theme where you are fighting along with many men and not only alone. In this mission your partners (who are computer controlled) too help in fighting and completing you objectives which makes the game play more realistic. The latest version of the game till today is Call of Duty : Advanced Warfare.

Gameplay :
In Call of Duty you are an infantry soldier who uses World War II firearms. Each mission has a number of objectives to be completed before the player could go on to the next mission. Objectives are marked as stars in the compass. The player can save and load at any time which is replaced by checkpoint system in later Call of Duty games. In Call of Duty the player can carry to two primary weapons, handgun and 10 grenades but in later versions you can carry only One primary weapon. You can exchange your guns from the ones found on the battlefields. You can also fire single shot or automatic fire which is absent in the later versions. When you are hurt you loose health and you can regain health by picking up Medkits scattered on the battlefield while in later versions you regain health if you are not taking fire. It also features "shellshock" i.e. when there is an explosion nearby the player experiences sound muffling, blurred vision and is unable to sprint or move fast.
The Game differs from many single-player games of its time. It simulates the actual action and the player moves in groups rather than moving alone. You are given charge of certain objectives from the commanding officer. The gameplay features taking cover, suppressive fire and use of grenade as an important part of survival. You can also see the Computer controlled allies and enemies taking cover behind barricades, objects, walls and other obstacles.
The Various Campaigns :
The USA Campaign
The Game begins in a training camp. You are Pvt. Joe Martin, who is the member of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The first mission is basically for preparing you for the real action. All the regiment trains at Camp Toccoa in Georgia, USA on 9 Aug 1942. You are the pathfinder of the other paratroopers. The paratroopers get scattered leaving you and you get mixed up with a unit formed by several companies. The given unit clears the nearby houses from germans and then goes on to capture Sainte-Mère-Église. It also disables Flankpanzers at the beginning of D-Day (6 June 1944). A paratrooper Pvt. John Steele is seen hanging from the town church. The third mission would lead you holding Sainte-Mère-Église from German Counterattack. In the next mission you would be driving along with Pvt. Elder and Sgt. Moody driving through a bunch of Germans from Sainte-Mère-Église to Sainte-Marie-du-Mont along highway N13. Still on 6 June the fifth mission is Brécourt Manor Assault in which the US troops would destroy German artillery at Manor and get some intels (documents) to pave the way to the Utah Beach . In the next mission you are sent to Bavarian Alps, Austria to rescue two important British Officers Cpt. Price who is leader of most of the British campaigns and Major Ingram. You are required to rescue them from a Chateau on 7 Aug 1944 . Later it is known that they have moved Ingram somewhere else. On 18 Sep 1944, in Dulag IIIA, Strasshof, Austria the next mission is to retrieve Ingram from the POW Camp pin-pointed by Price. This mission is also successful. For outstanding fieldwork, your unit would be detached from the 101 Airorne division to carry out special missions behind enemy lines. In the Final mission you would take part in Battle of Bulge and secure documents from german bunkers and defend yourself form the German Counterattack and destroy two Panzers. After this is over, the American campaign ends with Foley congratulating Martin on his actions and ends stating, "I can hardly believe, it's over."
The UK Campaign
In this campagn you are Sgt. Jack Evans and a unit from 2nd Ox and Bucks of the 6th Airborne Division take part in Operation Tonga along with you. The unit is dropped from Horsa gliders near Pegasus Bridge at the Caen Canal after Midnight on 6 June 1944. They capture the bridge and defend the bridge from the Germans. The unit is leaded by Captain Price (These missions are before his rescue from the Chateau). In the next mission, just past noon the same day you are required to hold the bridge from German attacks until the reinforcements arrive. The Counterattack include many tanks. Finally the 7th parachute battalion arrives and you are rescued.
On 2nd september, the third mission begins. This mission has you working for the SAS (Special Air Service). You get inside Eder Dam alone and destroy the anti-aircraft guns. You are then extracted by Price and Sgt. Waters. In the fouth mission you are fleeing from the Germans along with Price and Sgt. Waters. In the Fifth mission the trio reaches an airport near the Eder Dam. Here you protect Price and Sgt. Waters from Stuka Bombers with an anti-aircraft Gun while they are procuring a Fw.200 plane to escape. In the sixth mission you Price (This mission is after his rescue from the Chateau) and Waters are disguised as German Navy to get into German Battleship Tirpitz in Norway to sabotage key naval equipment and obtaining a naval log for future RAF raids on the battleship. The mission succeeds but the Captain is captured or killed during the mission.
The Final mission begins with an objective to destroy mobile V2 rockets and key german supplies. You and Waters along with a squad near Burgsteinfurt, Germany succeed in the mission and destoy the V2 missiles.
USSR campaign
During the battle of Stalingrad you are Corporal Alexei Ivanovich Voronin who is being transferred across the Volga river on 18 Sep 1942, many boats are getting destroyed on the way by the German artillery or Luftwaffe planes. Due to mass crowd you are unable to get a gun and you find a senior to help you out. Finally with his help you are able to clear the German machine guns and get into the Red Square. The second mission begins with Soviet soldiers trying to capture the Red Square and the retreating soldiers being killed by fellow soldiers (Joseph Stalin's Order No. 227 - 'Not One Step Back' asked to kill the retreating Soviet soldiers). You get to a good vantage point and kill the officers calling reinforcement and the tanks are destroyed by Soviet artillery. Thus, the Red Square guarded by two tanks and machine guns is captured. Now you would have to reach a railway station. In the next mission, you would need to travel through the railway station and part of the city along with fighting the Germans to reach Major Zubov of the 13th Guards Rifle Division. You are promoted to Junior Sergeant and on 9 November you are on the fourth mission to search a unit which is not reporting since few days. You pass through sewers to avoid snipers and make your way to a building recently captured by the Germans. In the fifth mission you reach under the command of Sergeant Pavlov. First you serve as a counter-sniper and shoot the snipers of the building while a soldier attracts the fire of the enemy snipers and later the unit captures and defends the four story building from the German counterattack (actually this is based on a real incident during the battles in Stalingrad, see Pavlov's House).
Much after the fifth mission, on 17 Jan 1945, you are promoted to full Sergeant and given a position in 150th Rifle Division of the 3rd Shock Army. Your unit secures a tank repair facility in Warsaw, Poland while the Vistula-Oder Offensive. The next mission is to regroup with the 4th Guards Tank Army on the outskirts of the facility. The next mission occurs on 26 Jan 1945 when you are required to command a T-34 tank due to lack of experienced soldiers in 2nd Guards Tank Army. You are required to secure the town near Oder River. The mission ends with the ally tanks defeating German Panzers and reaching near the town. In the next mission you destroy anti-aircraft weapons in the town with the tank and secure the town.
The Final mission is on 30 April 1945, with Sergeant Voronin returning to the 150th Rifle Division. And the war ends as his unit races through the Reichstag Building in Berlin and hoists their flag atop the building.

Conclusion :
Conclusion :
Call of Duty was released many years before and since then many sequels to it have been added but the original Call of Duty is still very addictive to play. The proof to this fact is that many critics have criticized this game only for it was of short length. If you leave the oldish graphics we can guarantee the you will love to play this classic. So if you have not tried it at least try it once.
